US Secretary of Defense James Mattis arrived in Jordan today for a meeting with Jordanian King Abdullah II and the chairman of Jordan’s joint chiefs of staff, Lt. Gen. Mahmoud Freihat. The Pentagon said Mattis and his Jordanian counterparts are expected to discuss the fight against the Islamic State as well as other “shared security interests.” Mattis will proceed to Turkey on Wednesday for a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Edrogan and Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.
